The
Problem
Do Something Now!
|
Not a week goes by that we don’t read or hear about
some violent crime, some random shooting or some horrific
murder wreaking havoc on our streets, tearing apart our neighborhoods
and killing our young people.
While new strategies to fight crime and violence
may be helpful, Oakland simply needs more police officers. The
city currently employs 749 police officers, far below the
1,075 officers, which according to FBI statistics, is closer
to the average for other cities of our size.

Unfortunately, our crime problem is not average. Oakland’s
homicide rate is nearly 60% higher than it was at this time
last year. And, we have been rated the fourth most
dangerous city in the US – not to mention we have
been labeled California's murder capitol.
We have had enough. We need to be able to feel safe
again in our neighborhoods. Our city government is
failing to act. We must do something to change that.
